#truthtalk Tuesday's with Nique

Tuesday 19 February

Meditation is a journey to unravel your true self; and every little corner you discover more and more about you. Your true essence. Your authentic self. Your I AM statements.

Dear Diary,

I spent some time today looking into who I AM.

I remember doing this exercise in meditation teacher training six years ago and realised...holy guac, who am I?

The exercise is simple really, fill in the blanks, mind map-type scenario...I AM....then you fill in the rest with statements or words that describe who you are.

Seems easy I guess...

After the fall of an eleven year relationship, I realised I had lost myself. One of the key things I took away from that module was that it was imperative to never EVER lose yourself to anyone or anything.

I knew I was creative, inquisitive, nurturing, kind, compassionate, positive, thoughtful, loving, a little bit on the quirky side, definitely more introverted, intuitive, an empath, clairsentient, positively Gemini, a writer, a singer, a dancer, joyous, notoriously bad with directions, a small miracle that I passed Discrete Maths in Year 12 or business statistics at uni (??), etc, etc, etc.

I also knew that for the most part I was operating out of fear or what can be described as your ' I AM NOTS.'

I am creative but I wasn't actually taking any spirited action towards channeling that creativity. I am kind but I knew that my kindness, compassion, unconditional love towards my former partner was from a place of fear. More on that in a different post.

I realised that out of fear, I started operating from a place that did not resonate with my true essence, my big I AM statements.

I became outspoken, picky, stressed, stubborn, unforgiving and reactive. Hmph!

The 'simple' exercise had proven to be a friggin' rollercoaster journey, in the dark. You don't know if you're about to go up or down, upside down, round and round. But with all rollercoaster rides, they come to an end, quicker than you realise, a minute generally speaking in rollercoaster time.

Why would an I AM exercise be included in a meditation teacher training?

Meditation is a journey to unravel your true self; and every little corner you discover more and more about you. Your true essence. Your authentic self. Your I AM statements.

When you are operating out of alignment from your I AM statements, mindfully pause. Dig deep, go on that inward journey and see what you discover.

Here's a 'simple' exercise:

I AM - things or aspects that I desire and am working towards:

  • ...

  • ...

  • ...

I AM NOT - things or aspects that I do not admire about myself and am currently aligning:

  • ...

  • ...

  • ...

To have a little fun, I decided to create an acronym of some of my I AM statements.

I A M > > M O N I Q U E

Mindful

Open

Nurturing

Illuminated (we're all light expressing it self as a hue man for a short while)

Q-rious (not actually a word but whatevs)

Uniquely quirky

Eternal (we all are - duh!)

Ok...your turn! Have fun dudes and dudettes.

Much love,

Nique x

P.S. Nique is the nickname used by my nearest and dearest :-)
